Brett Duffy’s Story

My Story

Below I will go into painful detail about my history and all the skills and experiences I have because of my long, diverse career, but I thought I would give you the 30-second version here in case you don’t have hours to read my full story 🙂

I got my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked in the industry for many years mostly in project management and then in a leadership position running an engineering department for a manufacturing company. I have always been one to have a broader interest than most engineers, so I dabbled in advertising and education for a while before landing in a role as a real estate agent. I soon took on a role as a managing broker and found my passion for helping others improve their own businesses. I spent a couple of years at a large, technology start-up in the real estate space and found my other passion for building businesses from scratch. I know run, work for and manage several businesses in different industries which keeps me keenly aware of the current landscape of business and technology. I put all of that to work for my coaching clients to help them exceed their own goals!

So, here are the gory details of my story should you really want to get to know me.

I went to Montessori Schools in New York, NY, Rome, Italy, and Atlanta, GA when I was young. I mention this only because anyone who is familiar with the Montessori Method will have an understanding of my inherent desire to learn about everything that was developed at a young age is clearly a part of my being.

For middle and high school, I transitioned 180 degrees to a private catholic school. This was a very different experience but provided an opportunity for me to learn to function in different environments with a range of people I had not previously experienced.

For college, I moved back toward my early education roots and attended a 100% co-op program that allowed me to gain practical, hands-on engineering skills while also getting a top-notch theoretical education in mechanical engineering. Because adversity is one of the greatest teachers, I will share that I stumbled while in college and had to have a mind shift that allowed me to fight my way back into the program. I could have made the path to graduation easier in many ways, but my personal determination to finish what I started was too strong and I graduated in the year I was originally scheduled with a BSME Machine Design Specialty as planned.

More to come…give me a break, remembering all this detail takes time LOL
